Reflections on New Year Resolutions

When I sat down to write for the February Day of Consciousness, I reflected on how we tend to start the new year with all sorts of plans and expectations; from working out more often or at all, to creating a new routine or program to improve on ourselves. But, it's all been said before. Advice on how to begin new routines or habits, how to start a new hobby or how to stop an old behavior. How to be more productive and how to be a better person.
Now, here we are; the beginning of February and we can look back on how well we have maintained all our New Year Resolutions.
But why only address these efforts at the new year? Why not approach every day as if it's a new year with new opportunities.
Try looking at each morning as the start of a new, 24 hour lifetime.
Perhaps you want to be extra diligent at your job or profession that day.
Or maybe today, you're going to take a break and enjoy a day off from the regular routine of other days.
Maybe tomorrow you'll feel inspired to create or maybe you'll return to a forgotten hobby or activity.
Of course we have responsibilities and obligations that we accepted and are required to maintain each day but that doesn't mean we can't look around each day and see it with fresh eyes, curious minds and enthusiasm of what the day will bring.
Allow yourself to be spontaneous and pursue a personal improvement on any day of the year not just January 1st.
Allow yourself to become more flexible and resilient, be more spontaneous with less expectation and preference in your view. Like exercising the body with challenges and diligence, we want to exercise our perspective the same way, every day not just once a year.
Happy 1st day of the rest of your life.
Peace and Blessings
