Serenity : a state of utter calm and unruffled repose or quietude

Hard to imagine finding unruffled repose or utter calm in the current state of affairs.
It's not impossible but it is a challenge. So many things are disrupted and in chaos right now; politics, society, religion, social media, employment, economy...
So much has changed so quickly it's next to impossible to feel like we have a grasp on things let alone feel like we have accepted and made peace with everything we are facing.
Serenity is only possible with acceptance of what is. Any resistance causes disquietude and anxiousness about having control over what happens.
Needing control is not serenity. Needing answers is not serenity. Focusing on what can not be changed is not serenity. These are all forms of resistance to "what is".
However, if we have been successful with our understanding of attachment and non-attachment; serenity is not as difficult a challenge. By being able to accept and honor the is-ness of what we are facing we remove the resistance and the need for more control. We take the first step toward serenity.
Faith must be cultivated as well. A firm belief that all is as it should be and that things will resolve favorably. It reminds me of the Cherokee Indian legend The Tale of Two Wolves, "Which Wolf do you Feed?". This legend reminds us that the parts of ourselves that we feed, will grow.
Feed the fear, anger, and disappointment that reflect resistance and that is the Wolf that will grow stronger. Feed instead, your faith, compassion, love and serenity and that is the Wolf that will grow stronger.
The corollary to this legend is to also think about the wolves within others that we are feeding with our thoughts, words and actions. If we are true to ourselves and our serenity, we will be true to others as well. If we are resistant or deceitful with others, we will be so with ourselves.
Check in on your serenity level. How is it doing? Consider the Compassion Mantra, Peaceful Soul or spend some time reflection of R'shiAnya and remember...
Be the Change you Seek.
Peace and Blessings
